Richmond Weddings – Late Spring Weekday Wedding at The Mill at Fine Creek

Have you ever heard of ‘love at first sight?’ That wasn’t one of those love stories…

Katlyn and Ben may be head-over-heels in love now, but it wasn’t always like that. This sweet pair both worked for an EMS company, where their story began! As the Field Training Officer on the 24-hour shift they both worked, Ben often had a “distaste” for Katlyn’s “overconfidence in the company’s practices”. The final straw was when Katlyn went home early one shift — at the expense of Ben working an extra call and picking up her ‘slack’ — as the couple put it. It did not take long at all for these two to fall quite fond of each other through texts and time spent working together. Over the years, the couple have shared a deep love for musical theater, horror movies, and even dancing! K + B surprised their guests with a dress change and a choreographed first dance in honor of one of their favorite hobbies. I never saw Ben so smiley! The guests even exploded with cheers and a standing ovation. What a slay!

Then comes the ring & wedding planning…

Fast-forward to present time — when we first met over beers at Fine Creek Brewing Company for their consultation, I knew I found my people! Through conversation I learned we share a love for a good beer/cocktail and speaking fluent in sarcasm more than anything. Katlyn just HAD to get her pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks before our initial meting, making them a little late. When she took my ‘basic’ jokes with pride, I knew this was going to be a great time! It did not surprise me the pair fell for each other after finding enjoyment in each other’s twisted sense of humor and hell, even a mutual love for pasta. Spend a little time with them and you will probably laugh your ass off too!  know I sure did – Every. Single. Time. Whether it was a phone call, text message, or in-person chats!

Iconic Richmond-Inspired Engagement Session…

During their engagement session last fall, we wandered through the streets of Carytown — stopping at some crowd favorites like Can Can Brasserie, the bold and colorful murals, and Citizens Burger Bar (RIP). We grabbed some cocktails, attempted to dodge the holiday season crowds, and kept moving and shaking to stay as warm as we could! Though of course – boozy hot chocolate makes everything better! K + B already had photos done before by a friend, but wanted to cash in their complimentary session to get to know me a bit better before their wedding day. I highly recommend using your session in any capacity — even if it’s short and sweet! We curate each session to be tailored to YOU and your favorite activities as a couple. We’ve done coffee shops to mountain tops — and everything in-between! I had such a good time kicking it with these two, it hardly felt like work. Ben even had a blast – and I was told he hated getting portraits taken in the past!

Here are some of my favs from their December session….

Weekday Wedding Day — Getting Married on a Wednesday

Katlyn + Ben decided to host a Wednesday wedding the week of Memorial Day earlier this year. Take notes, couples! Some of your favorite venues may have discounted rates for weekday/off-season weddings. The Mill at Fine Creek is a venue I frequently see hosting weekday weddings! These folks truly know what they’re doing. Did you think the party was any less wild given it was Hump Day? Heck no! These folks were still dancing their hearts away even after I left. One of my favorite parts of their day? During the ceremony, these two took a unity shot to make the vows official! Definitely my type of tradition. It truly felt like working with lifelong friends while serving K + B along with their families!

Here are some of our favorite images from Katlyn + Ben’s wedding day at Mill at Fine Creek!
